How DimeIn Works

Start by picking one of our 3 DimeIn event types:

the 3 dimein event types grand total to split fixed cost per person pay what you want

More on each:

  • Grand Total To Split - Where the cost of the activity is fixed (like a giant AirBnB cabin) and the more people who attend, the less each person needs to pay. (Just make sure it has enough beds for everyone…)

  • Fixed Cost Per Person - For scenarios where you are buying for the group and just need to know how many tickets (or T-shirts, or whatever) to buy. Like going to an NBA game; you want to make sure you’re all sitting together. You also don’t want to buy more tickets than you actually need.

  • Pay What You Want - For when you are collecting from friends or even coworkers for a group gift and you are looking to collect however much people are willing or able to contribute.

Set up your DimeIn event by:

  • entering in the related Cost(s)

  • estimating the ideal, minimum, and maximum Headcounts

  • setting the Deadline

Then, list everyone who is invited to participate (or contribute).

Everyone starts as a “Maybe”, but obviously the goal is to get them to pay or decline by the deadline.

Now send everyone the invite!

DimeIn prepopulates a text with all of your DimeIn event details that you can easily copy and paste into your group chat (via text, Facebook, WhatsApp, etc.).

With these details, your participants can decide if they can or want to participate. They can even base their decision on who is or is not already participating.

If they want to join in, they just need to pay you — UPFRONT — via however you specified that you like to accept money (Venmo, cash, etc.).

Once you confirm you’ve received their money, their status will update from “Maybe” (…) to “Paid” ($).

If a participant Declines, their status automatically updates from “Maybe” to “Declined”.

Now, like all social settings, some people will respond immediately, some a bit later, and some will wait until the last minute.

Some NEVER respond at all.

That’s where some friendly reminders do the trick.

You can bump them yourself in your group chat – OR – you can let DimeIn send some automated reminders on your behalf!

(DimeIn works best when BOTH happen.)

exact verbiage varies

All a participant needs to do is pay up or decline to stop receiving reminders.

Other participants in the group can also reach out via the group thread (or directly) to help nudge people into making their decision. (DimeIn has functionality specifically to facilitate this.) This is peer pressure for “good”.

When the deadline hits:

DimeIn checks to see if your event collected enough money.

If it’s a Grand Total To Split event type, DimeIn calculates the final exact cost per person based on the final paid headcount.

“9 participants contributed toward the cabin trip, so the final cost per person is $111!”

If you collected a little more than you needed, kick back each person the difference. DimeIn calculates that for you.

Better to over-collect, rather than under-collect and have to either eat the cost or hunt people down for more money, right? That is the DimeIn way.

If not enough people chipped in to hit the fundraising goal, you’ll just need to refund those that did chip in. (DimeIn makes full or partial refunds easy to track.)

The BEST way to collect money from a group.

DimeIn is all about helping make fun things happen by eliminating the crappy parts of event organizing and group purchases. On top of that, we do it all quickly and efficiently.

With DimeIn, you’ll never get stuck with the bill again and you’ll never again feel like the bad guy by having to nag your friends, coworkers, etc. for money.

Let DimeIn do that for you!
